You know I have many friends and family that drive trucks and right now they cant pay their bills. The price of keeping their Rigs on the road has skyrocketed. Many of the owner-operators are losing money by keeping their trucks on the road. I checked the price of diesel today and I can see why. $3.99 to $4.15 is the price range of diesel in Toledo, ohio. The amount of money each truck uses is between $600 to $1200 dollars to fill the tanks. This has envoked many truckers to shut down their rigs in protest and naming it Truckers Strike 2008. Organized mainly over CB radios and Web sites, the strike of owner-operators truckers, was to protest the price of diesel fuel. Over the varios week many protest took place;

-Near Florida’s Port of Tampa, more than 50 tractor-trailer rigs sat idle as their drivers demanded that contractors pay them more to cover their fuel and other costs.
-20 truck drivers held a peaceful protest along Route 18 in Big Beaver, near the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Beaver County.
-100 truckers lined up in Harrisburg to show state lawmakers that they want something to be done about the high prices.

Now you may say, I dont drive truck, this is not your concern. Those truckers supply you with your food, clothing, and your way of life. They cant offord to keep running and support their families at this rate. Also, have you noticed your own gas tank lately? $10 doesnt fill your tank anymore, try about $50 now. We as a nation need to support these drivers, not for them, but for our own well being.
Groups like truckers forum, truckers today, and american truckers at war have information on how you can help. You and I dont like this, but we need to all come together and stop the fat cats from getting richer while the hard working men and women of trucking starve.
